A homage to those who have come before.
For the third JOSEPH & JAMES chapter, designer Juanita Page explores her generational history. The collection is inspired by key eras that her grandfather and father lived through as they each navigated early adulthood as Aboriginal, South Sea Islander and Samoan men in Mackay, Queensland. Both bearers of the name ‘Joseph’, Juanita presents a collection that will serve as a thank you, an appreciation for the sacrifices made by the men that paved the way for her to step into the richness of life and opportunities that were out of reach in their time.
While taking cues from the bygone eras of the 50s, 60s, 80s and 90s—with nods to her own father and grandfather’s styles—Juanita bridges the past and present, interpreting designs through a layer of modernity, whether it be through the fabrication, the absence of a jacket lapel, the signature oversized pockets, or the brand’s street-inspired silhouettes.
True to the JOSEPH & JAMES design aesthetic, Part Three will showcase a carefully curated selection of fabrics–timeless, yet expressive. Sourced from all over the world, stretching from Portugal and Italy to Korea and Japan, as well as utilising Australian Merino Wool, the collection exhibits a synthesis of stripes, textures and colour. There’s boldness, yet refined and considered.
The JOSEPH & JAMES man is a contributor. Like the designer’s father and grandfather, they aren’t defined by circumstance. They value legacy and see purpose. Our work today goes beyond our tomorrow: The Josephs encourages this notion. It’s a petition to reflect, appreciate, aspire and celebrate.
